Prikichi Preserve

Prikichi Preserve is a natural area of approximately 6.8 hectares near Santa Barbara. The land was originally intended for development but was protected in 2022 to preserve the remaining vegetation and landscape.

The area consists mainly of limestone and contains several sinkholes. In most places, there is very little soil. This area is therefore not suitable for large-scale reforestation. Restoration focuses mainly on natural regeneration. By keeping goats and donkeys out, existing trees and shrubs can recover. Invasive plant species are removed where necessary, and young native plants have a chance to grow.

Part of the area has been fenced to protect the native flora and fauna. The beach and the old road parallel to the shoreline have deliberately been kept outside the fence and remain accessible to visitors.

Prikichi Preserve forms a green oasis within an increasingly developed area. Protecting the land helps preserve the remaining dry forest and limestone landscape for the future.
